Facility

See how Memory Lane makes a difference.

A large part of our approach is offering care in a warm and cozy home setting. We often say: “Residents don’t live in our facility, we work in their home.”

In designing Memory Lane, we looked to the latest research about environments that are beneficial to memory care residents. Each neighborhood is designed in a circular pattern with the kitchen and living areas in the center of our universe to promote more social engagement. A mix of private and shared resident rooms are around the perimeter, and each is fully furnished with furniture you’d see in a home, not a hospital. Residents can also bring their own furniture and belongings to surround themselves with personal and memorable objects that remind them of home and enhance feelings of safety.

Quite simply, Memory Lane is the furthest thing from an institution: no long hallways, no flickering florescent lights and no visible hospital-like nurse’s stations. All activity is monitored 24/7 from our wellness station which, to residents looks like the window to a neighbor’s house.

From the floor patterns and full spectrum lighting to the height of the furniture and the potpourri simmering, every decision was made with resident well-being in mind.

Therapeutic Relaxation Room

Knowing that the environment can have great therapeutic benefit for memory care patients, one room we’re particularly proud of is our Therapeutic Relaxation Room. Based on the ground-breaking research called Snoezelen Therapy from the Netherlands, we use a multi-sensory environment to stimulate lethargic senses, calm residents who are agitated, and cue long term memory with familiar objects, sights, textures, sounds and smells.

Aromatherapy helps soothe and gentle hand massage helps residents feel connected. Music helps those who have lost the ability to communicate through comprehension or reasoning. The result is a profound positive effect on emotions, lowered heart rate and blood pressure, and increased alertness.
